Thomas Edward Buckman

Where is he now?

Well "he" is Thomas Edward "Eddie" Buckman and he is now in Grantham, New Hampshire.

"Ed" as he is now called, is the fourth son of Jim and Dorothy Ann Buckman. He is a 1980 graduate of St Ann Catholic School, and a 1984 graduate of Union County High School.

Ed joined the United States Marine Corps in 1987 and served four years which included a tour of duty in the Persian Gulf War in 1990.

Meanwhile, back in Morganfield, Ms. Nancy Voyles third grade class at St Ann School were busy writing letters to their pen pals in Ms. Denise Monica's third grade in Grantham, New Hampshire. Ms. Voyles class was also writing to soldiers in the Gulf War. Ms. Monica decided to have her student's write the same soldiers and that would give both classes something else to write about to each other.

Billy from Ms. Monica's class wrote to Drew in Ms. Voyles class and both students wrote to their soldier, Ed Buckman. Ms. Monica wrote to each soldier to tell them that her class would be writing them and where they were from in the world. She told them of their connection to Ms. Voyles class in Kentucky and that they would receive letters every other week, but that the students and she didn't expect them to write back, they would just keep them company and connected to America with their letters. Well, Billy's soldier Ed Buckman wrote back to him and sent back MRE's and sand from the desert. Billy asked Ed to come for a visit after the war and Ed agreed. By holiday time, Ms. Monica's entire family had begun writing the soldiers with holiday wishes and prayers for a safe and speedy return.

Ms. Monica's cousin Joan was writing to Ed. Ed had sent his mom's address to Joan and Ms. Monica began writing to Mrs. Buckman with messages of reassurance and prayers for her son. The families had connected 2000 miles away.

When the war ended, Ed went to New Hampshire as he had promised. Ms. Monica took Ed to Billy's home and visited and spent time getting to know the people of Grantham, New Hampshire. Ed took a particular interest in Ms. Monica. Lives changed in those few days. Ed stayed in New Hampshire and in April of 1993 Ms. Denise Monica became Mrs. Ed Buckman. They have been married for 14 years and have two children. They are members of Sacred Heart Parish in Grantham, New Hampshire. That is how Ed Buckman of Morganfield, Kentucky became a resident of Grantham, New Hampshire.
