Morning Announcements

Good morning students and staff, today is .

Mission Statement/Philosophy:

Mission Statement: St. Ann School provides academic excellence in education while emphasizing the teaching of the Catholic faith to prepare students to be responsible members of families, church, and community.

Philosophy: We believe that each student is a unique individual created by God and destined for a life with Him. We believe that parents and guardians are the primary teacher of children and, therefore, should actively be involved in the educational progress of children. We believe that all children can learn and by guiding the development of the student, we can help each student fulfill a commitment to Jesus Christ.

Pledge of Allegiance:

Let's begin with the Pledge of Allegiance. Please remain standing after the Pledge of Allegiance for Our Morning Prayer.

I pledge Allegiance to the flag, of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Please bow your head, In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Daily Prayer:

Most Heavenly Father, we believe that you see us and you hear us. Lord our God, when we do something wrong, or we feel we are in danger, it is easy to forget how much you love us. Help us to call on you when we need help, and to trust that you will find us when we are lost. Heavenly Father we ask for your healing strength to be given to those in our community most in need of healing. Walk with them, protect them, and give them the strength to come to you in their time of need. We ask for your Healing Hand to be placed upon Fr. Andy Garner.

In your name we pray together:

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Saint of the Day:

St. Blaisev We know more about the devotion to St. Blaise by Christians around the world than we know about the saint himself. His feast is observed as a holy day in some Eastern Churches. The Council of Oxford, in 1222, prohibited servile labor in England on Blaise's feast day. The Germans and Slavs hold him in special honor and for decades many United States Catholics have sought the annual St. Blaise blessing for their throats We know that Bishop Blaise was martyred in his episcopal city of Sebastea, Armenia, in 316. The legendary Acts of St. Blaise were written 400 years later. According to them Blaise was a good bishop, working hard to encourage the spiritual and physical health of his people. Although the Edict of Toleration (311), granting freedom of worship in the Roman Empire, was already five years old, persecution still raged in Armenia. Blaise was apparently forced to flee to the back country. There he lived as a hermit in solitude and prayer, but he made friends with the wild animals. One day a group of hunters seeking wild animals for the amphitheater stumbled upon Blaise's cave. They were first surprised and then frightened. The bishop was kneeling in prayer surrounded by patiently waiting wolves, lions and bears.

As the hunters hauled Blaise off to prison, the legend has it, a mother came with her young son who had a fish bone lodged in his throat. At Blaise's command the child was able to cough up the bone.

Agricolaus, governor of Cappadocia, tried to persuade Blaise to sacrifice to pagan idols. The first time Blaise refused, he was beaten. The next time he was suspended from a tree and his flesh torn with iron combs or rakes. (English wool combers, who used similar iron combs, took Blaise as their patron. They could easily appreciate the agony the saint underwent.) Finally, he was beheaded.
