News from Mrs. Mary Beth Mason - Kindergarten-B

The kindergarten trip to the zoo has been postponed until Monday, May 19th, due to weather.

Language Arts

  • We are continuing to read our small books that go along with our Reading Series.
  • This week will complete our Reading Series. We will continue to work on our high frequency words, sounding out words and reading books! Some of us are beginning to read very well!
  • We have been dividing into groups to work on various reading skills. This seems to be working great and the children seem to enjoy it.
  • We have been working on beginning and ending sounds.
  • We are also working on listening for middle vowels sounds. Both long and short.
  • We have been copying sentences off the board, reading the sentence and illustrating it. (This is a 1st grade skill! We are so smart!)
  • For the last few weeks, we will stress forming our letters correctly.

Math

  • We are working with money. Counting and recognizing it. This is a difficult concepts but, the students are doing great!
  • We are continuing to work on the concepts of more/less, estimation, and patterning.
  • Over the next few weeks, we will be working on measurements- length, weight, capacity, and temperature.
  • We are writing our numbers from 1-20, by ourselves! We will also work on writing our numbers correctly.

Religion

  • We have finished our Lenten series in our Religion books.
  • We are rejoicing that Jesus has risen!

Science/Social Studies

  • We have been discussing the signs of Spring.
  • We read several books about Spring.
  • We took a nature walk to look for signs of Spring and how everything is changing from the Winter months. We are very excited about the warm weather we have had.
  • We discussed how important the rain is for the flowers and other things that are growing.

Art

  • Spring has Sprung in Kindergarten.
  • We decorated Easter eggs before Easter and have been doing many activities that incorporate the signs of Spring. Beautiful flowers, bugs, and green leaves.

F.Y.I

  • April snack is $9.00 Please put snack money in a separate envelope (not w/ lunch money). This makes it much easier for Mrs. Debi. Thanks!J

Extra Activities

  • Please turn in your raffle tickets by Friday, April 18th. We appreciate all who have already sold their tickets and to those who are still working. It is a great way to help others.
