News from Ms. Bethany Ziegemeier - Grade 3

Free Light Bulbs Saturday

St. Ann's 3rd Grade is wrapping up their environmental service project this Saturday, May 17th. They would like to invite the residents of Union County to come to ALPS grocery store in Morganfield on Saturday, May 17th from 10:00am to 2:00pm to pick up a free energy saving light bulb. The students are using the funds they raised from their Go Green Day to purchase energy saving light bulbs so that residents of Union County can help to conserve electricity and really begin to "Go Green." The light bulbs are first come, first serve, so be sure to be at ALPS at 10:00am on Saturday, May 17th to receive your free energy saving light bulb. There is a limited supply, only one per household please.

Highlights from last week…

Go Green Day was a huge success. There should be a large group picture of the whole school in their Go Green shirts in this week's Advocate! Thank you so much for all your help in getting Go Green together. The students should be very proud of their efforts. I am super proud of them! A huge thanks to Nikki Sheffer for helping with the bake sale on Go Green Day. We couldn't have done it without her. We had a great time at Farm Day! Unfortunately some of the events got rained out, but it was still a great day. Thank you to all the parents that went with us.

Adventures Yet to Come…

We are reading two new stories in reading this week, The Keeping Quilt and Home Place. In math we are looking at time to the quarter hour and continuing to build upon our knowledge of fractions. In social studies we are exploring communities past. We are looking at the changes and continuity that occur within a community over time. In science we are looking at weather. How weather is formed and how to measure weather is our focus in science this week. We are continuing to read our current literary novel The Seven Treasure Hunts. We are continuing to strengthen our understanding of pronouns and look more at contractions.

Reminders and F.Y.I.'s

  • Family Oral History Report due date has changed to May 15th, due to Field Day on the 16th. I apologize for the confusion. If this date change will be a problem please tell me by 5/8/08, otherwise the report is due Thursday, May 15th when the student gets to class.
  • Friday Mass- This Friday is our last Friday Mass. We would love to see you in Mass if you can make it. Be sure to ask your child what they are doing in the service.

Tips for Success!

The year is not over. Help to keep your child motivated and working hard all the way to the end. This content is preparing them for fourth grade.
