Minutes: A motion was made to accept the March 6, 2008 minutes by Danny Ricketts and seconded by Tisha Cambron.

Principal's Report:

  • Mrs. Brook's class participated in "Read Across America" in March. All 5th grade students participated in getting the program together. Students in K thru 4 rotated through four different reading stations.
  • Jump Rope for Heart campaign raised $1754.25. Students will receive prizes and our school will receive money for P.E. equipment.
  • Mid-terms ends April 23rd and mid-term reports will go home on April 29th.
  • March of Dimes campaign took place Friday, March 28th; we raised $334 for this campaign.
  • Each class is working to raise money for their individual service projects. This was part of Catholic School Week program. Each class was given $100 from PTO and they were challenged to do something good with their money. This was actually kicked off before Oprah's Big Challenge program. Each class is uniquely raising even more money. We will meet as a school on Tuesday, May 19th and each class will tell the school what they did and how they raised extra money for the cause.
  • We currently have two openings at St. Ann School. One is for preschool assistant and the other is for a boy's basketball coach. Each has been posted in the newsletter and church bulletins. We will make a decision before the end of May for both positions.

Old Business:

  • Washington trip update: Most of the funds have been raised, they have a barbecue chicken sale scheduled for this Sunday and the lawn mower sales are taking place. We will be leaving on April 28th and returning May 3rd.
New Business:
  • Terra Nova testing from April 15th-18th.
  • ACRE test results handed out.
  • 2007 School Improvement Recommendations (handout)
  • 2008-09 registration is currently in progress. We are personally phoning everyone who has not turned in their registration form. So far, everyone is returning. Currently our kindergarten enrollment for next year is low. At this time it looks like we will have one kindergarten class and two first grade classrooms.

Public school calendar for 08-09 (submit a copy from the BOE)

Booster Club: Mrs. McGraw announced the officers for the 08-09 school year: Beth Ricketts and Sherri Greenwell will be the Co-Chairs, Margie McGraw and Lisa Smith will be the Vice Co-Chairs, Helene French will be the secretary, Leicia Schneider will be the treasurer and Karen Henshaw will be the PR representative. Also, Mr. Gumz is looking into hosting a basketball camp here at St. Ann's for our players. The Booster Club would like for Mrs. Hendrickson to consider having a dance team next year. She will think about it.

PTO (FOCUS): No report was given at this meeting.

Pastor's Comments: Father Baker presented the new set of plans for the school and explained the changes and the lower amount of 7.5 million. Father Baker wants the school council's input as well as the teachers and staff Also, Father Baker has been checking on the Interparochial part of the school name and has found out St. Ann's was never incorporated to be Interparochial. Mr. Mattingly will set up a meeting for all of the priests in the county to discuss the possibility of becoming interparochial and a decision will be made.

Old Business: Old business was discussed in the principal's report.

New Business: Danny expressed a concern about lengthening the lunch time for students. Mrs. Hendrickson stated lunch could not be longer due to the time needed for instructional learning. Also, Danny would like for the order forms for the spirit wear to be ready before school is out and also for spirit wear to be simplified. Father stated he wants the uniform policy to be changed to less choices. The logo for the spirit wear and the uniform will stay the same at this time. The possibility of changing the name of the school when a new school is built was discussed and the council was not opposed to the idea.

Next Meeting Date: Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 - 6:00PM.

Meeting Adjourned: Danny Ricketts made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Tisha Cambron seconded.

Respectively submitted
Arletta Bickett
